Emery is a versatile industrial abrasive commonly used in sandblasting, waterjet cutting and flooring industries. In reality, some people are accustomed to refer to the sand used in these industries as emery, but some of them are natural emery and some are artificial emery.
1. Main ingredients
The main component of natural emery is iron-aluminosilicate, in addition to containing TiO2, MgO, FeO, CaO, MnO, etc. It is formed in nature through a series of geological processes. The main component of artificial emery is Al2O3, which is obtained by placing sand and an appropriate amount of carbon in an electric furnace to strengthen heat.
2. Hardness
Natural emery is the largest among non-metallic substances, second only to diamond and corundum in nature, with a Mohs of 7.0-8.0, and many of its uses are related to its hardness. The hardness of artificial emery is about Mohs 9.5. Although it is harder than the former, its price is several times that of the former, and in some areas, the former can be used to achieve good results. Therefore, from an economic point of view, the former is more cost-effective than the latter.
3. Color
Natural emery generally has a complete range of colors, and red and pink are common as gemstones. For industrial purposes, it is generally iron-aluminum garnet. Artificial general is colorless powdery particles.
4. Origin
The natural origins are mainly concentrated in my country, the United States, Australia and India in the world, and now mainly in Shandong Rizhao, Jiangsu Lianyungang East China Sea and Hebei, which are mainly caused by geological reasons. For artificial emery, it can be produced in places with abundant bauxite resources.
5. Purpose
Natural emery has seven main uses in industry, and artificial emery is generally used in industries with high precision requirements due to its high price.
